Across Space – Sympathetic Vibration (Resonance) is a virtual exhibition embodying the concept of the Biennale’s theme “Channel: Wave-Particle Duality.” It draws inspiration from an idea that when a group of like-minded people come together, their thought amplifies, and the resulting energy can make a difference in this world. An individual artist or a team was invited from 35 countries to present their works and highlight the message that man and all other living organisms are one. Available in a virtual format, the exhibition demonstrates that while physical barriers and economic difficulties may hold us back, we can overcome them and come together as one spiritually.

WHEN THE RIVER SINGS, STONES IT BRINGS

Episode 1: When the River Sings, Stones it Brings is a virtual world that presents a landscape made up of skin textures and amorphous bodies, both alluring and sensuous, yet grotesque and uncanny. This work explores skin as a territory, composed of layers of lived experiences and accumulated memories which continuously shape and transform its topography. Our skin, similar to the natural landscape, bears the marks of the crossbreeding processes of colonialism, as well as histories of both oppression and resilience. This living membrane is then a terrain in itself, which transforms and adapts over time like a geographical ground. This piece takes a special meaning being placed at the Jungwon Roundabout, as this is a place with layers of colonial history and dramas, all invisible now but encompassed in its architecture and topography. This space -like the virtual piece- is at once a site and body that carries its idiosyncrasy and identity in its physical features.

This iteration presented at the Changwon Sculpture Biennial was a collaboration between Laura Acosta, Milton Riaño and Santiago Tavera, from a project commissioned by Optica, centre d'art contemporain and with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
